The final quarter of 2021 proved a busy time for C-Res in Queensland as we connected our small, local, Traditional Owner and Indigenous Businesses with Australia’s biggest business. Building these important connections is imperative to the success of small businesses, BHP and our regional communities.

In Mackay we hosted a Meet the Buyer event, where BHP Buyers and LBP Suppliers could network and discuss local supply opportunities. 30 BHP Buyers attended, representing BHP, BMA, BMC, Operations Services, Infrastructure and Asset Maintenance, Supply, Future Fit Academy, Corporate, and Indigenous Engagement; and over 80 Suppliers from Mackay including Traditional Owner and Indigenous Businesses. BHP employees from Peak Downs, Goonyella Riverside Mine, Hay Point Coal Terminal and South Walker Creek benefitted from the opportunity to meet with local suppliers and discuss what’s on the horizon.

The Indigenous Business Expo, also held in Mackay, featured over 20 Traditional Owner and Indigenous Businesses showcasing their products and services to BHP Buyers across multiple sites.  Without a doubt, the very successful event shone a light on Indigenous Businesses in our community and provided the opportunity to foster relationships between buyers and Indigenous Suppliers. The event networking was extremely valuable to Indigenous suppliers wanting to grow their business and buyers wanting to engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Businesses within our community.

C-Res was also invited to attend BMA’s Local and Indigenous Procurement Subcommittee Meeting, contributing to local supply discussions. The Subcommittee are actively driving exciting improvements in the social value space with BMA.  This opportunity presented a unique platform to immerse C-Res in local consultation and represent our Queensland suppliers with Industry leaders.
