International Women’s Day Celebrations

Throughout March, communities across Western Australia joined in celebrating the achievements of women. International Women’s Day is a global moment to recognise progress, advocate for equity and drive meaningful change.

At BHP, inclusion and diversity are more than just commitments. they are core values and essential elements of how we do business. Theiraspirational goal to achieve gender balance by 2025 is not only shaping our own workforce, but also encouraging suppliers and contractors to embrace diversity within their own businesses.

This year, Newman Operations actively partnered with local businesses to bring IWD celebrations to life. Across the region, seven work instructions were raised through the Local Buying Program for goods and services that supported the event – including venue hire, catering and refreshments. These engagements not only helped make the celebrations possible but also demonstrated how inclusion and procurement can go hand in hand.

By engaging local suppliers during events like IWD, BHP is not only strengthening its local supply chains but also embedding its values in day-to-day operations. These engagements provide small businesses with meaningful commercial opportunities while fostering a culture of inclusion. BHP and the LBF are also proud supporters of initiatives like the PHCCI Women in Business Luncheons, which provide valuable platforms for connection, mentorship, and the celebration of female leadership. These programs are instrumental in boosting female participation, enhancing local talent pools and contributing to regional economic productivity.

BHP’s drive toward gender balance is more than a target, it’s a key part of our strategy to build a productive, positive and inclusive workplace. By supporting diverse communities and partnering with businesses that share this vision, BHP is helping shape a stronger future for all.
