BHP’s BMA Broadmeadow mine has achieved significant cost savings and operational improvements with One Industries, a registered Local Buying Program Supplier. The mine faced challenges with frequent belt cleaner replacements, which were occurring up to 12 times daily occurring significant costs over a 12 week period. Sourcing a local vendor through the LBP presented an opportunity to address these issues while supporting a regional business.
One Industries, based in Mackay, was trialled as the primary supplier for conveyor scrapers. With a patented design and an understanding of BHP’s minimum requirements, One Industries has delivered exceptional results. The partnership has led to an estimated considerable cost saving while also reducing downtime and improving safety outcomes by minimising the frequency of scraper changes. This also saved two hours of labour for each replacement.
The close proximity of One Industries to the site ensures reliable same-day supply, supported by a local workforce of eight employees in Mackay. This collaboration highlights the value of leveraging the over 700 approved suppliers within the LBP, demonstrating how local procurement can drive operational efficiencies while contributing to regional economic growth.
“This product cannot be replicated. One Industries were registered with BHP Local Buying Program, so we trialled them to be main supplier for the components. It has worked great.”
