In 2023, BHP released their Reconciliation Action Plan which outlines four pillars with specific commitments and targets that address the priority areas. One of these pillars is Economic Development; BHP aims to contribute to intergenerational wealth creation opportunities for Traditional Owner and Indigenous businesses through employment, training, procurement and business support.
The commitment to achieve spend targets for BMA is a challenge when BHP procurement processes sometimes limit the ability to easily identify, onboard and engage new Traditional Owner and Indigenous businesses. Some suppliers are also challenged when managing their work with BHP alongside anticipated business growth. BHP, C-Res and Trading Tracks are working together to create sustainable business growth opportunities for Indigenous businesses.
“BMA continues to grow its Indigenous Business spend year on year. The BHP Indigenous Procurement team work collaboratively with C-Res through the LBP and are available to assist on all scopes big or small to devise actionable plans to ensure that we are working with Traditional Owner and Indigenous businesses effectively.”
