Boosting the Local Buying Program at Mt Arthur

Following the limitations imposed on travel and site access following Covid, face to face training and engagement at Mt Arthur Coal was minimal. The BHP Indigenous Procurement Team and C-Res Business Development Team commenced supplier visits in November 2023. To further capitalise on this opportunity, C-Res arranged on-site Local Buying Program (LBP) training for BHP buyers in February 2024.

The C-Res team provided new BHP buyer training, refresher training and an ‘opportunities and feedback’ session over two days. Topics included the new Expression of Interest Work Instruction type, the Supplier Guide and the benefits of the various other competitive Work Instruction types RFT and RFQ. Another key focus of the training was highlighting the benefits of the Local Buying Foundation and the locally funded positions (Business Development positions at Muswellbrook ,Singleton and Scone Chambers) and activities that result in a strong and resilient local supply chain. The trip also included supplier visits and engagement with Business Development Manager of Muswellbrook Chambers of Commerce.

“Our employees had the chance to engage with our LBP representatives and participate in open discussion to enhance their knowledge of the program itself and expand the site’s understanding on the local investment opportunities our partnership creates.”
