BHP were looking to source site specific equipment and leverage a sustainable and reliable local business to do so. They were able to achieve this through the use of the Local Buying Program.
Access Hire Pty Ltd commenced its Newman operation in October 2023 with General Manager/Director Troy Patching attending the “Meet the Buyer” event in the same month. Recognising the challenges experienced by smaller businesses to engage as a supplier to BHP, the Local Buying Program makes it simpler and easier for small, local and Indigenous businesses to competitively bid for supply opportunities released by BHP. This local business was successfully registered as a supplier in December 2023 and secured their first successful Work Instruction in January 2024. The Newman branch currently has seven employees all of which are residential to Newman and locally employed. Troy and team are committed to investing in the community by donating goods to the local Indigenous School Camp and sponsorship of local sporting groups.
“Without C-Res we wouldn’t have been able to offer our services as easily to BHP. The Local Buying Program is opening doors for us and providing the potential to open more. Using the portal has meant no hold-ups with Work Instructions and the help desk has been responsive with no speed bumps.”
