The BHP Mt Arthur site is looking to include more engagement and opportunities for small, local and Indigenous businesses. As part of this, BHP and C-Res (representing the Local Buying Program) attended the largest Indigenous Business trade show in regional New South Wales. The event was facilitated by the NSW Indigenous Chamber of Commerce (NSWICC) at Pokolbin, Hunter Valley and was a great opportunity to promote the connections C-Res can provide with Indigenous Businesses who were yet to be a part of BHP’s Local Buying Program.
Over 400 attendees were at the event with more than 40 suppliers in attendance. Four new Indigenous suppliers have since been onboarded to the LBP as a result of participating in this fantastic event.
The Local Buying Foundation proudly sponsored this trade show. In line with the Foundation’s focus on promoting Indigenous Economic Development, the event facilitated the involvement of Indigenous people in employment and business networking opportunities with BHP and the Local Buying Program. It also provided opportunities for Indigenous people to access business and workforce development within the local business community.
“Great to see the Local Buying Foundation sponsor this event and C-Res proudly showcasing the Local Buying Program. This was my first time attending the event and found it insightful after connecting with Indigenous businesses and hearing their stories.”
