The Port and Rail Family Day is a big annual event in Port Hedland. Recently BHP Buyers used the Local Buying Program to raise Work Instructions to engage a number of small, local businesses. The BHP organisers worked closely with the C-Res Business Development Team, providing them the details of the businesses that they want onboarded. C-Res Business Development Advisors then worked with the businesses to have them registered; supporting them with training on how to respond to the Work Instructions and how to submit claims.
Engaging businesses via the Local Buying Program cut down some of the extra administration duties that entail when engaging various businesses outside of the Program. The event was a valuable opportunity for the suppliers to be able to provide their goods and services to a major mining company. Instead of having different payment methods for suppliers, BHP Buyers benefitted from the ability to track work through the program as local spend.
“For us as a business, Family Day is great event that allows us to reach a bigger client base – we were asked to attend the Mining Area C 20 Year celebrations from feedback from this event. The family Day is one of the bigger events that we have throughout the year and is great to have the financial boost in the current financial situation” – Robin Moran, Business Owner of Scoop ‘n’ Sips.
