Local business raising environmental awareness

Impact Environmental registered with the Local Buying Program in November 2022. Director Aaron Thompson attended the Meet the Buyer event in Moranbah in March 2023 and was enthusiastic about seizing the opportunity to connect with BHP. Such was his eagerness that he had to leave his wife in Mackay, who was then 39 weeks pregnant.

At the event, buyers expressed concerns about an increase in the number of snake sightings in their workplace. Buyers identified a need for prevention training and measures to reduce the risk of snake bites. As a result, Impact Environmental has been engaged to deliver a snake awareness presentation at Moranbah Miners Leagues Club to help employees better understand snakes and what to do in the event of a snake encounter at home or in the workplace.

Impact Environmental were also approached to integrate an essential educational piece into the Recordable Injury Free celebration. The NPI team’s innovative approach provided something useful for staff to use both at home and at work. Aaron delivers the snake awareness presentation, dispelling prevailing myths and offering an understanding of snake behaviours. The supplier also inspected the work area of the Goonyella Riverside Mine and provided site preventative measures to minimize the risk of snake bites. With continuous efforts like these, Impact Environmental is focused on providing a secure environment for all.

“ Registering with the Local Buying Program has helped our business to connect with BHP. We’ve worked out on site to identify snake hazards and discuss ways to minimize the interaction. We’ve also presented a snake awareness session to educate people about behavioral characteristics and how to avoid getting into a bad situation.” Aaron Thompson – Owner, Impact Environmental.
