Local artists blossoming in the West

Bush Blossom Gallery is a small business located in the heart of Kalgoorlie, which sources authentic artwork from local Indigenous and Traditional Owner artists. Monica, the business owner, is an expert in the stories depicted in the artwork and the strong connection it has to the Country. She has established relationships with artists belonging to various native titles. The Local Buying Program has provided Bush Blossom Gallery with an interface to conduct business with BHP throughout the Nickel West footprint.

The Kambalda Concentrator and Kalgoorlie Nickel Smelter have acquired artwork from Bush Blossom Gallery. With the help of C-Res, Monica is grateful to have the opportunity to do business with such a large entity like BHP. She is a well-respected mediator between various local cultural groups, including Wongutha, Ngaanyatjarra, Tjiwarl, and Ngadju artists.

Joining the Local Buying Program has enhanced business growth and increased work opportunities, which were previously unavailable.  The Indigenous and Traditional Owner artists who are associated with the Bush Blossom Gallery are thrilled with the increased work opportunities provided by the program.

This is an exemplary instance of BHP’s commitment to the community. By engaging with local Aboriginal culture, it has helped to strengthen the relationship between businesses and communities while also raising cultural awareness.
