BHP and BMA employees can register at any time to use the Local Buying Program for their procurement needs. Buyers will be required to validate their registrations via their BHP email. Once registered, buyers can source goods and services from Local Buying Program suppliers by raising Work Instructions.

Safety is paramount in the eyes of BHP​

BHP prioritises site and personal safety for its staff and management. Access to appropriate safety eyewear is crucial, and obtaining it from a local optometrist is practical, time-saving, and convenient. It also reduces travel risks in regional areas. Eye protection is a mandatory requirement on Pilbara sites, especially prescription safety eyewear, which is critical to safeguard employee vision and contribute to general site safety. ​

Site Supervisors are notified when employees request prescription safety glasses, and a Work Instruction is created on the Local Buying Program portal. The Local Buying Program provides the platform for the buyer to engage with Hedland Eye Care for the glasses.​

Hedland Eye Care is a qualified, reputable, and well-equipped optometrist that can provide this service locally in Port Hedland. Employees can easily go to their premises, conveniently located near BHP Nelson Point facility for eye tests, and receive prescribed eyewear quickly, thus reducing the risk of employee injury. This sustainable engagement between a local business and BHP benefits the community and contributes to the continuation of high-quality health service being available locally.
