BHP and C-Res have reached a milestone of $1 BILLION spent with 1,600 small businesses across Australia through the Local Buying Program.
Since its inception in 2012, the Local Buying Program has encouraged better relationships between BHP operations and local small, local and Indigenous businesses. Building capability and capacity across the local supply chain and boosting regional economic growth, results have shown the engagement is contributing to strong local economies, increased business opportunities, and job creation within our regions.
A partnership between BHP and C-Res was initially created to support local businesses surrounding BHP’s Mitsubishi Alliance in Queensland (BMA) and now extends to BHP’s Australian assets with more than 67,000 work packages created.
C-Res CEO, Tracey Cuttriss-Smith said: βTo see A$1 billion paid out to small, local and Indigenous businesses in just over 10 years of operation, is something that we never could have imagined. This money has helped businesses grow; helped them sponsor sports teams and community events; helped provide jobs and opportunities for community members. We look forward to continuing our partnership with BHP as we work towards the next A$1 billion.β
