Request for Quote (RFQ) and Request for Tender (RFT) are two extremely useful procurement tools within the Local Buying Program that are available for buyers to broaden their supplier engagement.
Buyer Laura Jones frequently uses the RFQ option and recently had seven responses (quotes) from local suppliers to supply a Milwaukee Impact Drill. This meant seven suppliers were able to showcase their supply capabilities to a BMA/BHP Buyer, and the RFQ functionality automatically provided Laura with seven quotes to compare without having to contact suppliers individually.
Buyers are encouraged to utilise the RFQ/RFT option to increase the diversity of suppliers and improve the transparency of the procurement process. RFQ/RFT Work Instructions are delivered to all suppliers within the nominated category (RFQ) or a group of suppliers (RFT) selected by the Buyer, ensuring the work opportunity is visible to a wide range of local businesses.
By supporting local, BHP/BMA are contributing not only to the ongoing sustainability of individual businesses but to the vitality of the regional economy on a larger scale by providing more purchasing options within the local supply chain for BHP.
“The benefit of using the Request for Quote option with the Local Buying Program is that it gives the local businesses a chance to submit quotes to us; we receive more quote options at one click of a button, different options to compare and greater exposure to local businesses. It is a great tool for us to learn more about the services businesses in the local community can provide.“ Laura Jones – Administration Officer, BMA Peak Downs Mine, Queensland.
