C-Res and BHP celebrate ten years of community resourcing

Who is C-Res? Together with BHP we deliver the Local Buying Program and administer the Local Buying Foundations.

Back in 2012 a few like-minded personnel at BHP in Queensland were brainstorming ideas with Mackay business stakeholders about boosting local procurement. After many months planning and strategising, C-Res commenced operations with just two staff, who together with BHP were in for a memorable journey as the Local Buying Program commenced in Central Queensland.
Fast forward to November 2022, 10 years later, and the C-Res team has expanded nationally to support BHP Minerals Australia Assets across this wonderful country, now employing 33 staff. The phenomenal growth of the Local Buying Program has resulted in over $930 million spent with small, local and Indigenous businesses, and funding through the Local Buying Foundation has enabled delivery of more than 230 projects which support business capacity and capability building. We are so, so close to ONE BILLION DOLLARS approved spend!

Together with BHP and key stakeholders, the ten year milestone was celebrated in November with a gathering of staff, management, Local Buying Program Suppliers, BHP stakeholders and community stakeholders. Attendees heard from guest speakers who described the program as unique, one of a kind, and unlike anything else in the business world, which is delivering benefit to small business and regional business communities far beyond what was initially expected. The milestones, successes and contributions made to small businesses to date were acknowledged, and first hand accounts of how vital both the Program and Foundations are for the continued growth and prosperity in our regions.

One thing is for certain, this talented team is passionate about supporting local. We acknowledge the success of the program have been built on a solid partnership with BHP. Thank you for sharing the journey with us. We also acknowledge our talented and hard working Local Buying Program Suppliers as you make our regions shine. And a huge thank you to the BHP Buyers who are committed to sourcing goods and services locally as you are making a tremendous difference to the vitality and sustainability of our regional communities. We also thank those who have served on the Local Buying Foundation Advisory Committees who have nurtured the foundation from infancy to the overwhelming success it is today, delivering vital support and funding aimed at building and growing healthy regional business communities.

Lastly, this wonderful group of people at C-Res – our people make a difference and are passionate about what they do and love to see small businesses succeed.
