On R U OK? Day we are encouraged to connect with people in the community that we may have concerns about, asking them if they are ok, encouraging them to seek further help and to follow up to ensure support is being provided. Today is a timely reminder to check in with our family, friends, work colleagues and neighbours more often, you just never know what is going on in someone’s life.
For our teams at C-Res, this fits right into our value of ‘Empathy’ – putting ourselves in other people’s shoes, trying to understand why people are acting like they are (or not acting like they usually are), and just genuinely caring enough to ask a simple question, listen and support without judgement.
Our Mackay staff started the R U OK? day at Resources Industry Network breakfast raising awareness of mental health in the workplace. Over in WA, the team enjoyed morning tea with cupcakes from the local LBP supplier The Cookie Cartel in Newman.
During an R U OK? day discussion in the office, we took time to make meaningful connections with our colleagues and to encourage all team members to start a conversation. This was an important time for us to remember that a smile, just listening, a kind word, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring can all turn a life around.
R U Ok? Day reminded us how important it is to reach out to those around us and ask ‘are you OK?’.
