Through the Local Buying Program (LBP), BHP and C-Res have adapted to the challenges of physical distancing by connecting local businesses in Newman and and Port Hedland to FIFO workers while they are in self isolation.
LBP suppliers Sportspower Newman and Pilbara Party Planners have been able to keep their businesses operating by transporting everything from beauty products to hot chips to BHP team members who are unable to go into the community. Deliveries are made up to three times a day.
Lynda Langlands, owner of Sportspower Newman, said the initiative had been great for business.
“We have employed a number of local community members to help us provide this service, which has been fantastic for our business and Newman,” Lynda said.
Through this initiative, local businesses continue to be supported by the wider BHP community while showcasing the capacity of small businesses to adapt to challenging environments.
While the COVID-19 situation continues to unfold, the Local Buying Program is working with small businesses and partner organisations throughout the community to ensure their needs are met.
