Strengthening supply chain connections at the Tactic Conference & Trade Expo

Hundreds of conversations, new supplier connections and valuable regional insights were among the outcomes of the BHP Local Buying Program and Local Buying Foundation team’s attendance at the 2026 Tactic Conference & Trade Expo in Port Augusta last week.

The conference provided an important opportunity to engage directly with small, local and Indigenous businesses, learn more about the opportunities and challenges facing the region and share information about the support available through the BHP Local Buying Program.

Throughout the event, the team connected with a diverse range of businesses seeking to grow their capability, increase visibility and better understand pathways into industry supply chains. Face-to-face conversations allowed the team to hear firsthand about business priorities, emerging opportunities and areas where additional support can help strengthen supplier readiness.

A key focus of attendance was raising awareness of programs and initiatives designed to build business capability, including Supply Chain Ready workshops, the online supplier directory and opportunities to connect with buyers, industry representatives and support organisations.

The conference also highlighted the growing momentum of the Local Launchpad initiative, funded by the Local Buying Foundation and delivered by Tactic. Local Launchpad helped local businesses participate in the conference by subsidising exhibition booth costs, making it more accessible for businesses to showcase their capabilities and connect with industry.

During the conference, the team engaged with local and Indigenous businesses from across the region, established new supplier relationships and strengthened existing connections. Conversations increased awareness of the BHP Local Buying Program and the support available to businesses, while also promoting capability-building initiatives and supplier development opportunities. The event provided valuable insight into regional business needs through direct supplier feedback and helped connect businesses with pathways to industry opportunities. It also strengthened relationships with industry, government and business support organisations working to support economic growth across the region.

Events such as the Tactic Conference & Trade Expo are an important part of ensuring the BHP Local Buying Program remains connected to the communities it serves. By being on the ground and engaging directly with businesses, the program can better understand local needs, support supplier development and help create stronger, more resilient regional supply chains.

The BHP Local Buying Program remains committed to supporting local and Indigenous businesses to grow capability, build meaningful industry connections and access opportunities that contribute to long-term economic outcomes across South Australia.
