During National Reconciliation Week 2025, BHP’s Copper SA team brought Indigenous voices and culture to the forefront, thanks to a meaningful engagement through the BHP Local Buying Program.

Faced with the challenge of creating a culturally rich and inclusive panel event at the Adelaide Franklin Street office, the buyer turned to Australian Cultural Services, an Aboriginal-owned business based in Adelaide. Through the Local Buying Program, the team secured expert representation for a panel discussion broadcast across BHP networks, alongside a powerful traditional dance performance.

The Local Buying Program portal played a key role in enabling this connection, providing BHP Buyers with fast, trusted access to Indigenous suppliers who bring cultural depth and community insight to corporate events and initiatives.

This engagement did more than deliver a successful event, it strengthened BHP’s commitment to supporting small, local and Indigenous businesses. By connecting internal teams with Indigenous suppliers, the Local Buying Program supported economic development, fostered cultural awareness, and created genuine opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses.
