Connecting Queensland businesses with opportunity at QME 2026

The BHP Local Buying Program recently attended the Queensland Mining & Engineering Exhibition (QME) in Mackay, connecting with local and Indigenous businesses from across Queensland and showcasing the support available to help suppliers engage with industry opportunities.

As one of Australia’s largest mining and resources events, QME provided an important opportunity to meet businesses face-to-face, better understand current challenges and opportunities within the supply chain and strengthen relationships across the region.

Throughout the exhibition, the team spoke with hundreds of business representatives ranging from established suppliers to businesses looking to enter the resources sector. Conversations focused on capability development, supplier readiness and pathways to connect with procurement opportunities through the BHP Local Buying Program.

Attending QME supports the program’s commitment to being visible and accessible in the communities where suppliers operate. By engaging directly with businesses, the team gains valuable insights into regional business needs, emerging trends and barriers that can impact participation in the supply chain.

The event also provided an opportunity to promote initiatives that help businesses build capability and competitiveness, including Supply Chain Ready workshops, the online supplier directory and connections to local business support programs and resources.
