LBP Contributes $250 Million To Local Economies

As the first quarter for FY19 closes we reflect on the results achieved by the Local Buying Program nationally, and one stand out accomplishment comes to mind – contributing a record breaking $250 Million in Approved Spend to small local businesses, and continuing to support the sustainability of our local businesses and wider communities.   $50 Million can be directly contributed to approvals during the last 6 months, which in itself is a tremendous effort.

The C-Res team, in partnership with BHP, continue to maximise the opportunities available for small local businesses to provide goods and services to BHP Minerals Australia assets nationwide. To date over 21,000 Work Opportunities have directly contributed toward enhancing and building local business capacity and capability.

The continued success of the Local Buying Program is a result of local suppliers and BHP embracing the mutual benefits the Program offers. C2H Piping Services Pty Ltd recently provided some terrific feedback regarding their experience with the Program.  Jamie Williams, General Manager of C2H Piping Services commented “Registration as an approved supplier on the Local Buying Program has secured access to numerous opportunities to work with the resource sector in Central Queensland and provided a valuable connection to mine sites for supplying goods and services which was not previously readily available to our business”.

Having achieved this wonderful milestone only strengthens our resolve to continue building on the solid results achieved to date and enforces our commitment to supporting local communities.

R U OK?

C-Res continues its proud association with the R U OK? Breakfast event organized by Resource Industry Network in Mackay, and contributed as an event sponsor again this year.   It was fantastic to see such a diverse group of local businesses supporting the event, with guest speakers telling of their own personal experiences and reinforcing the critical messaging is being relayed amongst work mates, friends and families.  The C-Res team were also in attendance supporting this valuable initiative.

This national day of action reminds us all to check-in with those around us, ask R U OK? and to offer support to those who may be struggling with life.  It confirms that we all need to make every day R U OK? Day, and to be aware of the signs that someone may need help.  Start a conversation and make a connection, it could be the trigger moment that changes everything.

The LBP celebrates the first year of operations in Western Australia and South Australia

The C-Res CEO, Tracey Cuttriss-Smith and C-Res Board Members Kylie Porter, Melissa Westcott and Darryl Camilleri recently embarked on a 3 day trip over to Port Hedland to attend events organized to celebrate the Program’s accomplishments during the last 12 months, and to continue building critical relationships with LBP Suppliers, Stakeholders and BHP representatives.  The trip was an outstanding success and we will be working together to provide a post-event overview which will be released very soon.

In November, Roxby Downs and Olympic Dam will be celebrating their 30th year of operations in South Australia and a family day is being organized with the township hosting a “Follow the Yellow Brick Road” themed event with a variety of stalls and activities along the way.  We are planning a 1st year celebration event for the Local Buying Program in South Australia and details will be advertised once the event is confirmed.
